SINGALONG with JOHN is a unique service operated by John Casey which delivers fun and interactive musical services to the care sector. John incorporates singing, humour and an element of theatricals to deliver highly effective group sessions that are unparralled in terms of group interaction and effectiveness!
But perhaps SINGALONG with JOHN's most defining feature are the numerous madcap characters to emerge during each performance. Each one being representative of a particular period in time (be it musical of historical) which adds a generous slice of fun and nostalgia to every session.
Introduction..
I've been involved in the music business in some way, shape or form for most of my adult life and have played in several bands, most notably as bass player with the Toy Dolls from 1989 to 1996.
During this period I was fortunate to play hundreds of live shows all over the world, including multiple tours of: Europe, Scandanavia, America, South America and Japan, where I also lived for several years.
Although I'm often noted as a music therapist, let me stress that I am not a qualified therapist of any kind, nor am I affiliated to any professional body or orgainisation. In short, I'm a self-taught guitarist of 40 years. I have an acoustic guitar, a voice (of sorts) and an ever-growing collection of goofy hats and wigs!
Music, Performance & Songs..
In a nutshell, SINGALONG with JOHN sessions are tailored specifically to those of certain age! Likewise, the songs we sing are those 'most frequently requested' (by them) yet rarely performed by anybody else. However, there is one golden rule... with the exception of Danny Boy (on St. Patrick's Day) every song is upbeat, cheerful and FUN!
Some songs date back to the old Victorian Music Halls, while others include a multitude of styles and genres, including: George Formby,
Al Jolson, Lonnie Donegan, Doris Day, Elvis Presley and many more.. And unlike an ever-growing number of entertainers whose "live shows" consist merely of plugging into a laptop and singing-along to all the usual, well-worn karaoke favourites, SwJ remains true to the age-old traditition of a live show by performing every song - 100% LIVE!
